The reading for this week were, interesting...
The Batman issue was cool in that it was more like reading prose with pictures every once in while. I liked that, and how it wasn't over explanatory and detailed. it gave you just enough to know that He's the damn Batman and that alone in enough of an explanation. The story was really cool to. i like to think that they didn't give you a lot of pictures because it was about a blind man....
The War Comics Legion of Charlie was kind of a WTF moment for me. the story was funny But REALLY wierd, and very CHARLIE....
I also really liked the best of Creepy comics too. the artwork was amazing, and the story was interesting in the fact that what the main character did is something that alot of people do and will do for money. its kind of an everyday thing now, taking advantage of others and getting all the credit. and the fact that he died in just an outlandish never going to happen in real life-way added to the ending note of what he did was something you should never do.
Agreed, Charlie was nuts! Nuts in a really cool, insane way. It definitely pushed the boundaries of what comics can do. I cant say that anyone else had done anything like that before...maybe not even after. It really seems like a moment of the clarity "I can make a comic about anything that I want!"
ReplyDeleteThe Batman comic had some amazing moments where the pictures relate to the long text. On one page, the images lay out a sequence and after in the text, you begin to make sense of what you just saw in images. Its an interesting way to present a moment. The writing was really well done and the story had a great arch. Again, another great experimental comic.
Um....the Creepy comics are amazing. This story was hilarious, you can tell that it is directly inspired by someone specific. They probably knew it when they read it.
Its great to read the Dark Phoenix Saga again, its been such a long time. The narration and the Dazzler didn't seem so cheesy the first time around. This is such a classic story that it doesn't matter.
I guess that I would have to recommend the Charlie book to other groups. I think that people might want to read the Batman comic, this week. But I think that people should read Charlie because its an experience that they should have to go through.
